While 2011 was seen as a success for cybercriminals worldwide, it seems 2012 may be no different as nearly 71 percent of merchants store unencrypted payment card data on their business network, according to SecurityMetrics’ second annual Payment Card Threat Report.
Unfortunately, only one quarter of a percent (.24 percent) of card data storage on corporate systems declined between 2011 and 2012. Industries that accounted for over half (55 percent) of the total unencrypted payment data storage among businesses included the financial, hospitality and retail industry.

Well, this is quite funny. For the third time this year, research company IDC has raised their tablet forecast for 2012 and onward. According to analysts, the tablet market is set to ship 122.3 million units in 2012, up from their previous prediction of 117.1 million units.
The latest update from their report entitled, Worldwide Quarterly Tablet Tracker, also states that 172.4 million units will be shipped in 2013, up from 165.9 million units. Additionally, it is estimated that 282.7 million units will be shipped in 2016, up from the previous forecast of 261.4 million units.
A recent report, Cloud Storage Market – Worldwide Forecasts & Analysis (2012-2018), published by MarketsandMarkets, found that the cloud storage market is expected to grow from $5.6 billion in 2012 to $46.8 billion by 2018 – an estimated CAGR (compound annual growth rate) of 40.2 percent.
Of the global cloud storage markets, North America leads with the largest share of 60 percent of the overall market. Cloud storage in North America is estimated to have revenue of $3.4 billion for 2012, and is expected to reach $21.8 billion by 2018 – at a CAGR of 33.8 percent from 2013 to 2018.
Nearly half of companies today say they are unaware about the potential security threats they may face, according to a survey conducted by market research agency B2B International on behalf of Kaspersky Lab.
Not only do companies lack knowledge about cyber threats, but 58 percent of the IT professionals surveyed said they lack resources in both staffing and improving IT security systems. As a result, IT professionals say their organizations are unable to cope with cyber security threats.
According to the company release, a lack of staffing was mainly due to poor understanding among senior managers of the reasons why IT departments exist.
