Although there are more than 5.9 million views to clerical jobs every month on Monster.com, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s everyone’s “dream job.” According to a Monster’s Workforce Talent survey, customer service and administrative jobs are the least satisfying.
The survey found that, less than one-third (27 percent) of administrative professionals and 21 percent of customer service representatives expressed satisfaction with their jobs. This figure is even more astonishing given the fact that there are currently over 16.3 million clerical professionals in the United States.
Of the 6,000 Monster users who acted as participants, just a mere seven percent feel “extremely confident” in their ability to find another position. However, over 80 percent agreed that it is more difficult to find a job now versus last year.
Although 19 percent of the respondents surveyed agreed that employers are willing to provider higher wages than a year ago, 60 percent say they don’t feel their employers are willing to provide the needed time and training to support their jobs.
An interesting note, though, is that when asked if they would relocate to find a better position, more than half (59 percent) said they “would not consider relocating.” This is mostly in part to the fact that almost all are unwilling to leave New York or Los Angeles, as they are considered the two most desired job locations in the country.
“Administrative and customer service professionals could potentially be underutilized and more generally, feel a lack of support and recognition,” said Jeffrey Quinn, vice president of Monster’s Global Insights. “With just over one-half (51 percent) of these workers expressing confidence that managers understand their skills and abilities, it is up to the employers to rise and meet the challenge of creating a supportive and happy workplace.”
